David (who hails from Port Elizabeth) has a dry sense of humour. His passions aside from theatre, radio, and television, are travel, writing, and photography.
His love for theatre started at an early age and over the years, he has been involved in many levels of the entertainment industry including live theatre, television, and radio.
He was involved in amateur theatre from a young age, and in 1976 turned his life passion into a profession, which he says “had more turns than the Swartberg Pass (you see, dry sense of humour).
He moved from professional theatre as a lighting designer to television ( behind the camera) and from there to radio presenting on both community and commercial stations.
He is a country music specialist, so his favorite city is Nashville which he says is his spiritual home.
He started his radio career in 1994 at Horizon FM, before moving to CAN-I 98.7FM where he hosted a daily arts-based program called Centre Stage, which garnered him the runner up position in the 1999 Arts and Culture Trust of the President Award.
David presented and produced on Talk Radio 702 for 5 years where amongst other shows, he had a Saturday afternoon travel-themed show. He also presented and produced a 09h00 – 12h00 show on Radio Today (1485AM) for 4 years.
He then hosted the Afternoon Drive show on 101.9 ChaiFM which included a travel section. A return visit to Radio Today saw him hosting a weekend travel-based show for 4 years (more than 200 shows).
David was the content producer for an Afrikaans/English TV travel program for SABC. (See the thread? He LOVES to travel, write and photograph).
He has been a published travel writer for almost two decades, his photography has won awards and been sold both locally and internationally and most impressively his travel Blog “Travel and Things” won the 2019 SA Blog of the Year Award (having been runner up for six years) www.travelandthings.co.za
Now he finds himself back behind the microphone on Retro Online Radio, ready to take listeners on a journey of travel destinations, anecdotes, humour, and interesting guests.
Catch David’s Travel & Things Feature each Thursday at 10h30 with Brett Hermon and friends.
